Lead, Software Engineer

L3Harris Technologies offers a role for an experienced software leader in Herndon, VA, with an onsite schedule built around work-life balance. You will support maritime software requirements and lead software delivery across architecture, verification, integration, and application-level and embedded development. The position includes a competitive salary range of USD 135,000 to 250,500 per year, plus benefits focused on health, planning, and family support.

What you’ll do

• Contribute to software architecture specifications and documentation to support clear progress and traceable delivery.
• Provide day-to-day software technical leadership, including guidance, documentation review and approval, and independent V&V of design concepts and implementation approaches.
• Structure work to enable clear progress assessment and support estimating and tracking.
• Track software team performance metrics against critical program milestones and KPIs.
• Review and oversee design activities for compliance with customer requirements, company standards, software quality, and safety.
• Design and implement software using C/C++, including Linux-based GUI and system control work.
• Prepare design review materials for SRR, PDR, CDR, and other technical audits.
• Participate in flight safety certification activities.
• Support development through all lifecycle phases, and estimate and track financial progress when performing Control Account Management (CAM).
• Maintain positive working relationships with customers, suppliers, colleagues, industry groups, and government agencies.

Travel: about 10%.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or
• Graduate Degree and minimum 7 years of prior related experience, or
• In lieu of a degree, minimum 13 years of prior related experience.
• 2+ years in an agile or other software lead role.
• At least 5 years of experience with software design and development using C/C++.
• Experience creating and presenting software proposals, including developing and reviewing cost estimates and proposal packages.
• Experience tracking earned value.
• Experience leading large software planning efforts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.

• Experience with DO-178C software flight safety certification.
