Job Description

Center Point, Inc is seeking a Job Developer to support client vocational and employment progress in Oakland, CA. In this onsite role, you will assess clients’ vocational and educational skills, strengthen job-seeking capabilities, and work directly with employers and partner agencies to improve job outcomes.

What you’ll do

  • Assess clients’ vocational and educational skills, interests, and related employment needs.
  • Teach clients how to plan and prepare for employment, including resume preparation, job search techniques, and interviewing skills.
  • Lead both group and individual discussions centered on recovery and employment-related issues.
  • Identify and develop appropriate job opportunities for clients while maintaining a database of job listings provided by employers.
  • Collect program data and prepare monthly narrative and statistical reports describing vocational and job development activities.
  • Develop and provide job-seeking workshops for clients.
  • Accompany clients who are having difficulty finding work during the job search process.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with public and private agencies that provide vocational assistance.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical data and written reports covering vocational, re-entry, and other program activities.
  • Meet with the Program Coordinator and Program Manager to provide oral and written progress updates.
  • Contact local employers to obtain jobs for Center Point clients and match client skills with potential employers.
  • Regularly check in with employers and clients to support productive, ongoing working relationships.
  • Emphasize clients’ positive attributes while helping clients overcome barriers and deficits to employment.
  • Support preparation for the vocational phase of treatment through regular counseling contacts and a vocational treatment plan tailored to each client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include coverage for other shifts, locations, and responsibilities based on agency needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the social sciences (required).
  • Knowledge of drug addiction, drug abuse patterns, and treatment methodology (required).
  • Experience with vocational counseling and working with hard-to-place populations in employment settings (required).
  • Experience working in a residential drug or alcohol treatment program is highly desirable.

  • Shows initiative by taking on additional tasks and responsibilities beyond defined duties.
  • Is organized, meets deadlines, and submits accurate work on time without frequent reminders.
  • Responds to and respects supervisor concerns, training, directions, and assignments while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Communicates effectively with other staff, departments, and agencies; seeks supervision before key decisions and provides thorough, prompt debriefing.
  • Demonstrates acquisition of new skills by attending training and engaging in school or certification as applicable.
  • Adheres to and upholds Center Point policies, procedures, and philosophy, serving as a role model for Center Point concepts.
  • Maintains professional, courteous interactions with clients, the public, board members, and senior management.
  • Develops and provides job-seeking workshops and develops and maintains a job bank.
  • Collects data and prepares reports that quantify and describe vocational and job development activities.

Compensation: USD 31 per hourly. Location: Oakland, CA (onsite).
