Java/AWS/Agentic Senior Lead Software Engineer

In Tampa onsite, the Senior Lead Software Engineer role sits within JPMorganChase’s Payments Trust and Safety Technology group. This role guides agile teams to build secure, scalable fraud-protection technology that leverages AWS platforms and AI-assisted engineering practices to strengthen defenses and operational resilience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy cloud-native applications on AWS using services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, ECS, and EKS.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and application deployment with CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK.
• Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others.
• Identify opportunities to automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize application performance and reliability within the AWS environment.
• Implement IAM policies, encryption, and monitoring to ensure security and compliance.
• Document technical solutions and provide support for audits and regulatory reviews.
• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and adoption of new cloud technologies.
• Drive adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes; establish measurable standards for secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, while promoting reuse of proven patterns within the SDLC/TLM toolchain.
• Apply knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to scale the value of automation.
• Deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines while maintaining a focus on code optimization, performance tuning, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Proven experience leading effective use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within a work environment, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching senior engineers/leads on compliant usage patterns and controls.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
• Experience with S3, Aurora Postgres, ECS, EKS, RDS, Lambda, Glue, ALB/NLB and serverless architectures.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Spring Boot, Python, and Node.js.
• Proficiency in automation, continuous delivery methods, and all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, security, and working with Kafka for event streaming.
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
• Experience with pair programming agents like GitHub Copilot to accelerate prototyping.
• Proven experience building high-volume, low-latency, high-throughput transactional systems.
