Geospatial Software Developer
Job Description
ADNET Systems seeks a Geospatial Software Developer to support NASA Langley Crowdsourcing, focusing on collocation code for satellite missions, campaigns, and stakeholder documentation.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain collocation software for ongoing and upcoming satellite missions.
- Support crowdsourcing campaigns and related data workflows.
- Maintain and update the collocation database to ensure data integrity.
- Interface with observers to deliver data products to scientists.
- Coordinate collaboration with internal and external NASA partners, users, and stakeholders.
- Produce documentation and communicate findings to stakeholders in a clear manner.
Requirements
- Experience with NASA ESDS and Earth Data products across multiple satellite missions.
- Proficiency in geospatial Python, using libraries such as Xarray, GeoPandas, and Numpy to process multi-dimensional Earth science data.
- Experience programmatically querying geospatial catalogs via APIs like NASA's Common Metadata Repository (CMR), plus familiarity with subsetting tools and cloud-optimized data access (AWS, Zarr, OPeNDAP).
- Ability to extract variables from NetCDF4 and HDF5 formats and develop algorithms to match ground-based observations with satellite swaths and grids in space and time.
- Knowledge of relational or NoSQL databases for storing, indexing, and querying scientific or geospatial datasets.
- Capacity to produce clear technical documentation, data dictionaries, workflow guides, and reproducible code examples.
- Familiarity with software engineering practices including Git version control, modular code design, testing, and reproducible workflows.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to plan, manage, and deliver tasks with limited supervision.
- Willingness to work behind the firewall at ASDC and comply with security and access protocols.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and eligibility to obtain Public Trust level clearance for work at a Civilian Government Agency.
