Future Software Engineer

ImageTrend is building a continuing talent pipeline for experienced Software Engineers as its Software Engineering team plans for sustained growth. This role supports ongoing product development, with engineering practices that emphasize validation, verification, and production readiness while using AI-enabled tools.

This position is based in Eagan, MN and can be performed 100% virtually anywhere in the US, in line with ImageTrend’s remote work policy.

What you’ll do

• Use AI-enabled development tools together with strong engineering practices to build production-ready software, partnering with Product, UX, and engineering peers to deliver scalable solutions with appropriate validation and verification.
• Apply engineering expertise to challenge and refine solutions, combining research, engineering judgment, and AI-assisted development to meet technical requirements and business goals.
• Collaborate across the software development lifecycle with Product, Engineering, Quality, UX, and other cross-functional partners.
• Apply software engineering principles covering architecture, coding standards, automated testing, security, performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated and human-authored code using engineering judgment, code review, automated testing, and other verification methods to identify risks and ensure requirements and standards are met.
• Use modern development practices and technologies, including source control, automated testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and production monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and engineering approaches that can improve product capabilities, engineering efficiency, developer productivity, and customer experiences.
• Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues, improving application performance, scalability, reliability, and overall quality.
• Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and engineering standards across teams.
• Depending on experience and level, contribute to solution design, technical direction, mentoring, architectural decisions, and complex cross-team initiatives.
• Travel to orientation, industry or company events, or other onsite meetings as required.
• Perform additional duties or tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Demonstrated software engineering experience building solutions, including practical experience using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent development tools, preferably within a SaaS or technology organization. Experience in public safety, healthcare, or GovTech is considered a plus.
• Working proficiency with C#/.NET, SQL/SQL Server, TypeScript, React or Angular, Python, or comparable modern languages, frameworks, and technologies (depth varies by role level).
• Demonstrated ability to use AI effectively across coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and software design, while validating AI-assisted outputs using human judgment.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and understand common limitations of generative AI, including incorrect assumptions, fabricated or nonexistent APIs, insecure implementations, and insufficient domain context.
• Ability to structure engineering work so AI-assisted and AI-generated outputs can be independently verified against defined requirements and standards for security, performance, scalability, reliability, and quality.
• Experience with APIs, automated testing, source control, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and production troubleshooting.
• Understanding of software architecture and application design principles, including security, performance, scalability, reliability, testing, and maintainability.
• Strong problem-solving, time management, attention to detail, communication, and technical aptitude.
• Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop practical, scalable solutions.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.
• Demonstrated continuous improvement and growth mindset, with the ability to learn and apply emerging technologies while balancing innovation with sound engineering judgment.
• Ability to maintain discretion when handling proprietary and confidential information.

Compensation and eligibility

• Annual base salary range: $70,000 - $160,000 USD for this full-time role.
• Compensation includes bonus plus benefits, perks, and community gains.
• E-Verify participation to validate employee Form I-9 documentation.
