American Express is actively seeking a Data Engineer I in Phoenix, onsite. The role offers a competitive annual base salary range of USD 78,000 to 124,750, plus bonus incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package. Requirements

  • 6 months plus years of software development experience
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) with exposure to Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery
  • Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Scala, Hive, or SQL
  • Basic understanding of ETL concepts, data modeling, and data processing techniques
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and SQL programming
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Git, Jenkins, Maven
  • Working knowledge of version control systems and build automation tools
  • Basic understanding of web technologies (HTTP, REST APIs) and Linux/Unix environments
  • Strong fundamentals in programming, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented concepts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a proactive approach to learning and process improvement

Good to Have

  • Basic knowledge of Power BI for reports, dashboards, and visualizations
  • Experience creating simple data models, metrics, and KPIs to support analytics
  • Working knowledge of DAX, Power Query, and SQL for interactive reports and basic analysis
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts and exposure to tabular or semantic models
  • Basic troubleshooting and debugging skills for BI reports and dashboards
  • Familiarity with BI concepts, metadata management, and data governance principles
  • Awareness of data visualization best practices and the ability to present insights clearly
  • Strong analytical skills and an interest in using data to inform business decisions
  • Eagerness to learn modern BI technologies and continuously improve technical abilities
