Job Description

Medical Mutual of Ohio is hiring a Data Engineer to help design and build data integration pipelines that support business-focused data solutions. In this hybrid role based in the Cleveland area, you will develop transformations, assess data quality, and help others apply trusted data through models, scheduling, and alerts.

You will work across the systems development life cycle to turn raw sources into usable structures for data lake and data warehouse environments, while partnering with analysts and stakeholders to align data needs with business rules.

Location and work style

  • Location: Cleveland, OH (hybrid)
  • Onsite expectation: three days per week onsite
  • Candidate location requirement: candidates must be located in the Cleveland/Brooklyn area

Summary

Responsibilities include the design and development of data integration pipelines for business problems, including data profiling, transformation pipelines, measuring data quality, designing data models, and supporting applied use of data. This also includes exploratory analysis support, scheduling, and alerting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop data pipelines to integrate and transform data for analysis
  • Support other data users and enable applied use of data to solve business problems
  • Participate in business meetings to understand data and business needs, socialize data product knowledge and insights, and generate consensus
  • Perform data profiling and data documentation; measure and enforce data quality
  • Develop data models that represent information
  • Develop and sequence jobs and processes to transform data into data lake and data warehouse
  • Support analytic projects and data extracts to apply data in the warehouse, test and prove capabilities, evaluate usability, and demonstrate how analysts can use data to meet objectives
  • Conduct business meetings to understand data, capture agreement on business rules, identify analyst and stakeholder objectives, and support data usage
  • Measure data quality with manual verification and develop automated data quality tests
  • Learn new technical concepts and software languages as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a business degree with a focus on data transformation or analysis, or equivalent work experience
  • Basic understanding of programming design and coding techniques
  • Familiarity with the systems development life cycle
  • Understanding of database technologies and query semantics
  • Experience with public cloud database technology (e.g. RedShift, SnowFlake, DataBricks, Azure Synapse, BigQuery)
  • Experience programming in ETL or ELT technology
  • Understanding of data warehouse data model theory and techniques
  • Experience with Python programming language
  • Two or more years of professional experience developing software to solve business problems
  • Experience with data engineering system design and software implementation
  • Experience with all parts of the systems development life cycle
  • Experience leading and coordinating technical initiatives
  • Equivalent additional experience thresholds listed: 4+ years, 3+ years, 7+ years, or 5+ years (software development and data engineering system design and implementation)
  • Proficient with all parts of the systems development life cycle
