Job Description

Kemper is hiring an Associate Developer for its PolicyCenter Development team in Jacksonville, Florida (onsite).

Responsibilities

  • Complete training courses assigned for project specific work
  • Examine and analyze existing Kemper applications
  • Learn and apply Kemper development and design best practices aligned with project goals
  • Code in accordance with Kemper's approval
  • Review code in Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, and Angular
  • Understand Kemper's CI/CD pipeline for AWS cloud native services
  • Collaborate with the Technical Lead to draft templates for proposed changes
  • Deliver changes with leadership sign-off
  • Collaborate with leadership to execute proofs of concept
  • Identify and review AWS best practices
  • Identify and review Angular best practices
  • Conduct performance engineering and monitoring activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of hands-on software development experience
  • Experience with object oriented programming in Java
  • Demonstrates working proficiency in at least one programming language
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Basic understanding of AWS and cloud computing concepts through coursework, projects, or certifications
  • Ability to code, unit test, and debug moderately complex business applications
  • Experience with JavaScript (Node.js), Java, or Python through coursework or projects
  • Fundamental knowledge of web technologies and APIs
  • Exposure to tools such as AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, or frontend frameworks like Angular is a plus
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices architectures
  • Exposure to property and casualty insurance systems or platforms like Guidewire is a strong plus
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • On-site role in the Jacksonville, Florida office
