Comfy powers AI image and video creation for visual professionals, with ComfyUI providing a transparent, inspectable workflow. As Comfy expands its Developer Platform, the team needs a senior product designer to take end-to-end ownership of the developer experience across the console, onboarding, docs, usage, and billing, while staying tightly aligned with how developers actually build.
In this role, you serve as the design DRI for the full developer surface. You will make developer-focused interface decisions, define how platform concepts show up in the product, and ship the frontend code for the features you design.
What you will own
- Own the design of the developer console, including environments, API keys, Router, usage, spend, rate limits, and workspace settings.
- Turn new models, endpoints, and platform capabilities into interfaces as the API surface evolves quickly.
- Design difficult states where correctness and clarity matter, including failed deploys, empty credit balances, rate-limit errors, and missing permissions. For developer tools, you will treat error messages as part of the interface.
- Shape the docs and quickstart experience with the docs PM so reference material and the console feel like one integrated product.
- Talk directly with developers building on Comfy and review how they use the API before deciding what to build next.
- Build what you design by writing frontend code for your features and submitting PRs.
- Set the design bar and direction for the Developer Platform pillar.
Role context
- Millions of people use ComfyUI to make AI images and video.
- The Developer Platform is how developers use ComfyUI their way, including deploying a serverless ComfyUI environment.
- Developers connect partner models through Comfy Router using one API key.
- Developers manage keys, limits, and spend.
- Developers connect Comfy to their own agents through Comfy MCP.
What you will need
- 6+ years of product design experience, with developer-facing products you have shipped and can demonstrate, such as a console, API platform, cloud product, or SDK.
- Ability to own a product surface end to end without a design manager over your shoulder, with clear examples of decisions you made and why.
- Strong information architecture skills to make complex systems of objects, permissions, and relationships feel cohesive and understandable.
- High craft across typography, density, spacing, and interaction details, with shipped work that other designers respect.
- Deep familiarity with developer concepts. You know terms such as API keys, webhooks, rate limits, and serverless deploys without needing a translator.
- Experience writing software or building in the past, and the ability to show that you have spent years on developer products.
Working style
- You will work directly with the pillar PM and platform engineers.
- This is not a role where a PM provides a finished specification and you apply polish. You will start from an unclear platform problem, determine who the developer is and what they are trying to do, and carry the solution through to shipped UI.
Technologies you will work with
- ComfyUI
- Comfy Router
- Comfy MCP
Bonus points
- You have used ComfyUI or another node-based workflow tool and have informed opinions about them.
- You use other AI creation tools such as Krea, Runway, Higgsfield, Flora, etc., and can compare how they work.
Compensation and location
- Location: San Francisco, CA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 180,000 to 240,000 per year
About Comfy
Comfy is the AI creation engine for visual professionals who demand control over every model, parameter, and output. Unlike tools that hide complexity behind a prompt box, ComfyUI exposes models, processing steps, and outputs on a canvas where each decision is visible and inspectable. Originating as an open-source project in 2023, Comfy has grown to 4 million users, 60,000+ community-built nodes, and 150,000+ daily downloads. The platform is used by artists, filmmakers, game studios, researchers, and VFX houses, including teams at OpenAI, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Ubisoft, EA, and Tencent.
Comfy is a small, intense team in San Francisco with low ego and high ownership. The company recently raised $30M at a $500M valuation, and compensation for this role is listed as $180K - $240K.
