The Principal Software Engineer - Java role at Northrop Grumman is an on-site position based in San Diego, CA or El Segundo, CA. The role involves developing Java and Java EE enterprise solutions within an Agile environment, and requires a Top Secret clearance.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate in a team-oriented setting with Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test within an Agile software development lifecycle.
- Engage in the full software development cycle, including prototyping, GUI design, implementation, and delivery of build, test, and release activities.
- Work with object oriented programming, design patterns, JMS, Web Services, XML and related technologies such as XPath, XSLT, and XSD.
- Develop enterprise solutions for Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) in a service oriented architecture environment.
- Operate within a process-driven software development lifecycle across the software lifecycle.
- Maintain regular collaboration with team members to ensure project progress and alignment.
Requirements
- Education and experience alternatives include: a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years; or a PhD with 1 year.
- Prior leadership experience in agile development, including roles such as Product Owner, SCRUM Master, or contributing team member in an Agile environment.
- Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Proficiency in Agile software development, object oriented architecture and programming, as well as software integration and testing.
- Strong experience with Java, including Java microservices and GUI applications.
- Experience with at least two of the following languages: Python, Go, C++, C#, PowerShell, VBScript, Bash, or KornShell.
- Familiarity with Cloud technologies and service providers.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the Top Secret clearance (in-scope or Continuous Evaluation) and any program access required for the position within a reasonable timeframe.
- Ability to obtain and maintain initial SAP/PAR clearance prior to starting, with readiness to upgrade while in role as needed.

Salary
The primary level salary range is $114,000.00 - $171,000.00. This range serves as a general guideline; base offers consider factors such as role scope, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. In addition to base pay, some positions may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Annual bonuses recognize individual contributions and company results, and senior roles may qualify for Long Term Incentives.
