Wargame Developer
Job Description
MANTECH is seeking a Wargame Developer to support the Marine Corps Wargaming Division in Quantico, VA. This onsite role focuses on moving from traditional wargaming toward high-fidelity digital environments that support senior leader decision making.
The position centers on building and running simulation databases and digital interfaces, while also supporting mechanics development, testing, and the capture of player decisions and telemetry across both tabletop and digital play.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and produce high-quality physical player aids and reference guides, leading their evolution into interactive digital interfaces.
- Develop, operate, maintain, and archive simulation databases using government-provided M&S tools to improve tabletop and digital exercises before and during wargame execution.
- Build interfaces to modeling and simulation tools for game play, and operate complex digital tooling during execution while translating technical outputs into real-time “so-what” narratives for senior decision makers.
- Bridge analog and digital environments by evangelizing new tool capabilities and usage methods to help the customer increase digital maturity.
- Support analysts by developing tools that capture player decisions and telemetry in both formats, enabling robust post-game reconstruction.
- Partner with designers and developers to refine mechanics that reflect Marine Corps capabilities while staying intuitive and playable for senior stakeholders, and lead testing and evaluation of a game design prior to gameplay.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in wargaming, military modeling and simulation, or military operations. A minimum of 10 years of related experience can be substituted for the degree.
- Proficiency with graphic design and layout software (for example, Adobe Creative Cloud, PowerPoint) to produce professional-grade player aids and products.
- Ability to quickly learn, master, and operate new software-based modeling and simulation tools.
- Experience developing player-facing products, reference guides, or game mechanics manuals.
- Ability to provide examples of product development work (such as reference guides or branded materials).

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the transition from analog tabletop exercises (TTX) to integrated digital environments.
- Experience with government-provided simulation tools such as AFSIM, Command PE, or similar platforms.
- Prior experience supporting the Marine Corps or other Federal wargaming entities.
- Ability to conduct research and capture detailed data inputs needed for game fidelity, including coordination with intel branches to capture detailed data for game play.
- Familiarity with government and commercial game engines.
Clearance Requirements
- Must have a current and active TS/SCI clearance.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able and willing to perform occasional manual labor and warehouse duties, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
