Job Description
TAK/ATAK Software Engineer role at Dark Wolf Ventuers, onsite in Frederick, CO, focused on developing and supporting TAK/ATAK software and plugins for military and first responder users.
Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain software for the Tactical Assault Kit ecosystem, including ATAK for Android and WinTAK for Windows.
- Design, implement, and validate TAK plugins, tools, and features that deliver real-time situational awareness for military and first responder operators.
- Collaborate with military personnel, product owners, and engineering teams to assess operational requirements and deliver mission-critical capabilities.
- Release functionality in iterative cycles and verify with real-world users during live operations or training scenarios.
- Engage with TAK community stakeholders and government customers to maintain plugin and server compatibility.
- Maintain compatibility with supported hardware by testing firmware updates, new functionality, and related improvements.
- Contribute to secure, hardened software designed to operate in disconnected and limited bandwidth environments.
- Occasional travel to customer sites to support deployments and validation efforts.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience with the TAK ecosystem (ATAK/WinTAK/CIVTAK/TAK Server), especially developing TAK plugins or extensions.
- Proficient in Java, Kotlin, or C++, with emphasis on Android or Windows development.
- Strong understanding of geospatial concepts, data formats such as CoT and GeoPackage, and GIS toolkits.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiar with DevSecOps practices and tools such as Git and GitLab CI.
- Solid grasp of algorithms, design patterns, APIs, and software architecture.
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
