Staff Software Engineer

Staff Software Engineer at Vast LLC in San Juan, PR (onsite), with a salary range of USD 160,000 - 180,000 per year, joining as a founding member of the engineering team to shape architecture, contribute hands-on development, and deliver scalable, AI-enabled workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the system architecture across the full stack, including frontend, backend, APIs, data models, and cloud infrastructure.
• Establish coding standards, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices for the team.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, share knowledge, and provide constructive feedback to elevate the team.
• Design for scalability and performance to support growth with reliability.
• Contribute hands-on with high quality code across the stack while leading by example.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to align on the technical vision and deliver cohesive experiences.
• Research and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and practices to stay ahead of industry trends.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience, including 2+ years in a startup environment with 0 to 1 product experience.
• Deep expertise in both frontend and backend frameworks, such as Vue, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Laravel/PHP.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, with exposure to AWS, Forge, or Azure.
• Proven track record designing scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering with high-level architectural strategy.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
