Software Engineer, Senior

Integrity Express Logistics is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead technical solutions for complex full-stack applications while mentoring engineers and improving software quality. This role operates primarily remotely from Columbus, OH, with occasional after-hours support for releases and production needs. You will also contribute to the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, and solution design.

What you’ll do

• Act as a technical subject matter expert for assigned applications, systems, and domains.
• Mentor Associate Software Engineers and Software Engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and informal coaching.
• Lead thorough code reviews and help teams meet engineering standards, development practices, testing expectations, and technical quality standards.
• Drive technical design discussions, including solution architecture, implementation planning, and key technical decisions.
• Collaborate with Software Architects and engineering leadership on architectural direction, modernization efforts, standards, and long-term technology decisions.
• Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain complex software applications supporting both customer-facing and internal business systems.
• Independently own complex initiatives from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Build scalable, secure, maintainable, and high-performing systems using established standards and best practices.
• Work across the full stack: front-end, back-end, databases, APIs, and integrations.
• Develop and maintain applications using Laravel/PHP, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Translate complex business and functional requirements into effective technical designs and implementation approaches.
• Partner with Quality Assurance to establish testing strategies and maintain software quality throughout the SDLC.
• Design and promote automated testing to improve reliability and development efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex defects and production incidents, including integration challenges, performance concerns, and root cause analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve architecture, technical debt, performance, maintainability, security, and engineering processes.
• Evaluate technical approaches and tradeoffs for scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, performance, and delivery effort.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, research, and solution design, with appropriate review and validation.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, development standards, and shared engineering knowledge resources.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum 7 years of professional software development experience.
• Advanced experience designing and developing modern web-based software applications.
• Advanced understanding of full-stack development: architecture, design patterns, APIs, system integrations, and modern engineering practices.
• Advanced proficiency in PHP or a comparable object-oriented language.
• Significant experience with JavaScript, modern front-end frameworks, relational databases, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, source control, automated testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable software.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and providing technical guidance.
• Ability to mentor less experienced engineers and influence technical decisions without direct supervisory authority.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and software delivery.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced experience with Laravel/PHP, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, complex system integrations, and business-critical software applications.
• Experience with Linux-based operating systems, containerization technologies, cloud platforms, and modern infrastructure practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment practices, automated testing strategies, and software quality initiatives.
• Experience with application performance optimization, scalability and reliability improvements, technical debt reduction, modernization, and long-term platform improvement.
• Experience with UI/UX principles, responsive application design, and collaborative Agile software development environments.
• Experience in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, supply chain, or Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
