Staff Machine Learning Engineer

PayPal is building and scaling machine learning solutions that tackle complex, real-world problems, and this Staff-level role focuses on taking models from design through production. You will lead technical work across modeling, data, deployment, and performance monitoring while partnering with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to integrate ML capabilities into products and services.

What you’ll do

• Lead the development and optimization of advanced machine learning models.
• Oversee preprocessing and analysis workflows for large datasets to support model-ready inputs.
• Deploy and maintain machine learning solutions in production environments.
• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate ML models into products and services.
• Monitor and evaluate deployed model performance, then make adjustments as needed.

What you bring

• 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Extensive experience with machine learning frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
• Expertise with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, along with tools for data processing and model deployment.

Location and salary

This hybrid role is based in Austin, TX, with an annual pay range of USD 178,500 - 265,100.

Pay also lists a primary location option in San Jose, California with an annual pay range of USD 196,500 - 291,500.
