Job Description

Build and run a Kubernetes platform that powers Intuit’s flagship products while improving reliability, scale, and day-to-day engineering experience. Intuit is hiring a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Platform Engineering Team to develop and ensure the seamless functioning of the Kubernetes Platform across Intuit, including Intuit Kubernetes Services (IKS) on AWS (AWS EKS). This role combines deep hands-on engineering with operational excellence, automated tooling, and collaboration across product and platform teams.

You will help manage and maintain Kubernetes services and clusters that support TurboTax, Quickbooks, Mailchimp, and key Intuit platforms such as Identity, API Gateway, and Service Mesh. You’ll contribute to platform development, deployment, service adoption, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting, with a significant focus on delivering highly available and reliable customer experiences. The role is expected to be roughly 70-85% hands-on coding.

Responsibilities

  • Apply comprehensive understanding of business and customer needs to design, develop, and implement capabilities, tools, and processes for highly available, scalable, and reliable customer experiences.
  • Use expertise in system engineering, software development, critical thinking, industry best practices, and AI to build innovative, resilient platforms.
  • Build, operate, and scale services running on AWS EKS with Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with Intuit Product and Platform Development teams to plan, prioritize, and design highly available cloud architectures.
  • Drive operational excellence through automation, observability, and process optimization.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, providing clear communication and proactive updates to manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Participate in on-call and support rotations to support incident recovery, resolution, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Provide technical leadership by guiding system design and implementation and ensuring best practices.
  • Gather functional requirements, develop technical specifications, and support project and test planning.
  • Design and implement proofs of concept (POC’s), then productize components and features.
  • Resolve defects/bugs across QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches.
  • Work cross-functionally with product management, QA/QE, product lines, and business units to deliver outcomes.
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of the overall project.
  • Mentor junior and senior engineers to support a culture of learning and growth.

Requirements

  • Experience with Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies.
  • BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of software development, production engineering, and building/managing large-scale systems on AWS.
  • 3+ years building RESTful services using Go, Python, Java/J2EE (Spring, MVC, Hibernate) and/or NodeJS.
  • Open-source development experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and a solid understanding of container orchestration and cloud technologies.
  • Programming experience in one or more of Go, Python, and/or object-oriented languages.
  • Experience across the entire SDLC and strong understanding of microservices architecture.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with unit testing and Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Strong understanding of generative AI concepts and hands-on experience with generative AI projects.
  • Strong understanding of the software design and architecture process.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Mountain View, CA (onsite)
  • Base pay range (expected): USD 171,000 - 231,500 per year
  • Pay is based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and work location, with ongoing pay equity comparisons across categories of ethnicity and gender.
  • This position may be eligible for cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits per Intuit plans and programs.
