Job Description

The Sr Software Engineer role focuses on end-to-end software analysis, design, testing, development, and maintenance, with agile and DevOps responsibilities. The position emphasizes software reliability, compliance and security best practices, and leadership in API and MCP governance and developer enablement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain software products across the delivery lifecycle.
  • Own implementation end-to-end by writing production-ready and testable code.
  • Create designs that align with architectural best practices, with attention to scalability, reliability, and performance for impacted systems and contexts.
  • Analyze failures, propose design changes, and promote operational improvements.
  • Make design and coding decisions with customer experience as a core consideration.
  • Incorporate outcomes from code reviews and apply updates to meet engineering standards.
  • Conduct code reviews to provide guidance on engineering practices and adherence to development procedures.
  • Ensure product development activities follow compliance and security best practices.
  • Maintain a strong focus on software reliability engineering standards within day-to-day development processes.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute best practices that support the bank’s technology transformation.
  • Support a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Assess task scope and sequencing, ensuring work is appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery, and communicate blockers and delays ahead of escalation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five to six years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following: API Governance, API Architecture, API Product Management, Developer Enablement, Solution Architecture, Technology Risk, or related disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI Specifications, API Lifecycle Management, API Versioning, Authentication, Authorization, and Error Handling Standards.
  • Experience defining and implementing API standards, design guidelines, governance frameworks, and lifecycle controls across enterprise environments.
  • Proven ability to drive adoption of technical standards through developer coaching, consultation, workshops, and enablement programs.
  • Understanding of GenAI Enablement, Responsible AI Practices, AI Risk Controls, AI Gateways, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) concepts.
  • Ability to translate complex security, privacy, compliance, architecture, and risk requirements into clear engineering guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating technical documentation, standards, training materials, decision records, and executive summaries.
  • Preferred experience with API Management Platforms (Apigee, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, Solo.io or similar), API Developer Portals, AI Agents, and experience in regulated financial services environments.
  • Ability to work from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

Work Location and Schedule

This role is located in Atlanta, GA and requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.
