Job Description
Exelon is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer 2 to design, develop, deploy, and maintain Oracle CC&B applications, providing technical leadership while driving enterprise-wide technology evolution. This onsite role in Baltimore blends hands-on development with mentorship and architecture collaboration to deliver scalable solutions for internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business partners to gather requirements and translate them into practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that meet business needs.
- Create product specifications and design documentation for assigned system components.
- Lead the engineering team and provide guidance to less experienced engineers; stay current with the latest technologies and trends.
- Use error reports to establish priorities and assign bugs to the appropriate team members for resolution.
- Support version control practices (Git) and an agile environment, including CI/CD pipelines and various automations.
- Leverage the Oracle Utilities Application Framework SDK to design, develop, extend, and support Oracle CC&B extensions and batch programs.
- Design and build CC&B modules and customizations using Java and Groovy scripting.
- Utilize CC&B configurations where appropriate to implement business requirements.
- Design, develop, and/or review complex code to ensure solutions meet functional and technical specifications.
- Contribute to project technical architecture design and development.
- Develop solutions across web, mobile, full-stack, or integrations, hosted on premises or in the cloud.
- Develop automated unit tests and/or automated UI tests.
- Identify and manage project risks and issues following established processes and take appropriate actions.
- Expand knowledge of preferred technologies, methodologies, standards, and policies.
- Maintain technical knowledge and business acumen within the domain; demonstrate strong debugging and peer code review skills.
- Provide technology solutions by weighing trends, product availability, and risks to meet business and IT needs.
- Participate in IT architecture reviews and standards setting.
- Assist in developing white papers and delivering presentations to explain technology recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 5–8 years of relevant experience maintaining CIS applications in a Java environment, or a minimum of 9–12 years of combination education and experience.
- Proven ability to lead small to medium software delivery teams.
- Strong software development skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent teamwork and self-motivation to succeed in a fast-evolving environment.
- Outstanding communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences in writing and verbally.
- Solid knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Solaris, Linux) or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Deep understanding of advanced programming concepts, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proficiency in 2–3 programming languages/frameworks; familiarity with functional programming principles and how to apply them as appropriate.
- Strong database skills including views, stored procedures, triggers, UDTs, and indexing strategies to optimize queries.
- Extensive API experience with end-to-end design capabilities.
- Independent troubleshooting abilities with minimal supervision.
- Full-stack experience and ability to collaborate with designers, business analysts, and architects; capable of defining and implementing best practices.
- Subject matter expertise in a critical area and the ability to translate requirements into solutions with task estimation and planning input.
- Solid Agile development experience and familiarity with tools such as ADO, JIRA, GitHub; knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes), service meshes (Istio), cloud-native architectures, streaming data tools (Kafka), Snowflake, and AI/ML data science.
