Job Description
Leidos is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support a long-term DIA-NDOC DOMEX Technology Platform contract. This on-site role in Maryland centers on building Python microservices, interfacing with Kafka and Elasticsearch, and deploying in Kubernetes within a TS/SCI environment. The position emphasizes collaborative delivery of reliable, mission-critical software through disciplined engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and maintain Python microservices
- Create Kafka-based message consumers and producers
- Integrate Elasticsearch for real-time and batch data indexing and querying
- Develop unit and integration tests to achieve strong code coverage and reliability
- Develop CI/CD pipelines and deploy services to Kubernetes clusters
- Engage in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture planning
- Monitor and troubleshoot production issues using observability tooling
- Document technical work and share knowledge within the team
- Apply software engineering methodologies appropriate to development, integration, and production environments
- Foster collaboration across team members to deliver high-quality services and products
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 6 to 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 4 to 8 years of relevant experience
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph
- Proficiency in Python and backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
- Experience with containerization, notably Docker
- Experience with ETL processes
- Hands-on Linux development experience including bash or similar scripting
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and microservice architecture
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience including deploying, monitoring, and debugging services
- Understanding of common design patterns, security practices, and logging/monitoring principles
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows (PRs, code reviews)
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools, especially GitLab or Jenkins
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with Agile practices
- Self-starter with the ability to work well in a team and independently
