Job Description

Vista Higher Learning seeks a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to drive end-to-end development of digital language education products, collaborating across teams to advance innovation in a focused development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Perform tests to optimize performance
  • Write clean code to develop functioning web applications
  • Work effectively and collaborate with different team members to deliver on-time and efficient projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of Senior level Software Engineering experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails or Python + JavaScript
  • Demonstrated software architectural design experience, including data persistence and API design
  • Strong understanding of networking and web browser protocols
  • Advanced working knowledge of Unix-like systems, and comfort working at the terminal command line
  • Advanced SQL and DB schema design knowledge
  • Advanced working knowledge of Git and GitHub
  • Experience collaborating with other departments and teams
  • Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills to actively respond to needs

What this role is about

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join a focused and professional development team that consistently drives innovation shaping Vista Higher Learning's digital language education products.

Ideal if you have or are (Preferred skills & experience)

  • Experience with Sagemaker, AWS Polly, Azure Speech Service
  • Experience with SQL, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch
  • Experience building and deploying high-capacity applications in cloud environments, especially AWS
  • Strong understanding of architectural patterns for scalability and performance
  • Experience working with LLMs and AI tooling for developers
  • Experience with Ruby highly preferred
  • Experience in ed-tech, education, language-learning or a related industry
  • Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and 2.1 AA compliance best practices

Location

Massachusetts, hybrid. Boston area with hybrid or remote options in the Eastern US Time Zone. The position requires current residence within the United States and within the Eastern Time Zone. Ideal candidates will be located near our Boston office and be willing to work a Tuesday and Thursday hybrid schedule. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary

Base salary range of USD 140,000 to 150,000 per year. The role is salaried and eligible for an annual incentive based on individual and organizational performance.
