Sr Data Engineer -- Assortment and Space Planning
Job Description
As a Senior Data Engineer on Home Depot’s Assortment and Space Planning Data Science team, you’ll build and maintain the pipeline infrastructure and data products that power self-service analytics and business applications. This onsite role in Atlanta, GA focuses on durable data engineering foundations, data quality, and clear communication across technical and non-technical partners.
What you’ll do
- Develop validation and ETL workflows to support successful data integration, ensuring data integrity from source to consumption.
- Handle backup and optimization activities to maintain performance, including code, configuration, and testing to keep pipeline outputs reliable.
- Design and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture that meets business requirements for structure, delivery, and ongoing operability.
- Collaborate with team leads and cross-functional partners to assess business requirements and communicate data opportunities and implications.
- Translate business needs into datasets and build pipelines that transform data into actionable, self-service friendly information.
- Build, test, and maintain data validation methods and data quality tooling, then host and maintain data products using monitoring, testing, and validation.
- Use modern data engineering techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data, while defending and updating data structures and integrity through automation.
- Establish design standards and assurance processes for data pipelines and applications to ensure data connections, flows, and storage remain compatible and operational.
- Review internal and external requirements, recommend system and storage upgrades, and mentor less experienced engineers on code quality and data engineering principles.
- Communicate pipeline decisions and data quality tradeoffs clearly to partners across data science, analytics, and application engineering.
Core requirements
- Must be eighteen years of age or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative or technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, etc.) or relevant work experience.
- 6+ years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience with data architecture, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling.
- Demonstrated experience developing and testing ETL/ELT jobs and pipelines, configuring orchestration, automated CI/CD, writing automation scripts, and supporting pipelines in production.
- Experience with Dataform or dbt for data transformation and pipeline orchestration.
- Experience with Python and strong SQL skills, including performance tuning (preferably Google BigQuery).
- Ability to stitch and maintain data from multiple sources.
- Ability to optimize pipeline runtime and lower cost on slot/storage consumption.
- Ability to prioritize requests and manage a pipeline roadmap.
- Experience building batch and streaming pipelines.
- Ability to define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills at all levels.
