Job Description

Blu Omega LLC is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support data modernization and analytics initiatives tied to federal agency data needs. This hybrid role is based in Ashburn, VA (20147), with an emphasis on designing, building, and improving enterprise-scale data platforms.

You will work across the full data lifecycle, from pipeline development and data modeling to governance, security controls, and ongoing performance tuning. The position also involves close collaboration with cloud engineering teams to deploy solutions within Microsoft Azure.

Role Summary

As a senior member of the team, you will design and optimize ETL/ELT workflows and data platforms that enable analytics, reporting, and data science use cases for evolving federal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Build, optimize, and manage scalable data models, including data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse environments (for example, Databricks)
  • Ingest, clean, validate, transform, and integrate large datasets from APIs, relational databases, flat files, and unstructured sources
  • Design data schemas and models that support analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives
  • Implement data quality, metadata management, governance, and security controls to support trusted data
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to deploy and manage data solutions within Microsoft Azure
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance and reliability using logging, alerting, and CI/CD practices
  • Partner with data scientists and analysts to build data structures aligned with changing analytical needs
  • Document architecture, pipeline logic, data flows, and procedures for maintainability

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related technical roles
  • 6+ years hands-on experience with Python and SQL, including scalable ETL/ELT pipeline development
  • 2+ years experience working with cloud data ecosystems such as Azure Data Factory
  • 1+ years experience with modern data processing and lakehouse technologies such as Databricks
  • Strong knowledge of data integration from diverse sources and formats
  • Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and architecture
  • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance principles
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Public Trust eligibility required

Compensation

$150,000 - $165,000 per year. Final compensation depends on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government or regulated environments
  • Prior experience with CDC data environments
  • Cloud or data engineering certifications, such as Microsoft Azure certifications
