Sr. Data Engineer
Job Description
As a Sr. Data Engineer on Premier Nutrition Company’s Enterprise Data Intelligence team, you will design, develop, and maintain cloud-native data infrastructure and ETL/ELT pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and data science use cases. You will also contribute to DataOps operational excellence and administer the Snowflake data warehouse, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end data infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud-native data pipelines and infrastructure to support analytics, reporting, and data science use cases in a SaaS-based environment.
- Own work across the data lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, ingestion, transformation, modeling, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Implement and manage ELT pipelines using tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Python to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions.
- Develop and maintain data models, data marts, APIs, and automation scripts that streamline enterprise analytics workflows.
- Design and deploy Snowflake schemas, tables, and views across multiple environments (DEV, QA/UAT, PROD).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical designs.
- Support documentation, training, and enablement efforts to drive adoption of enterprise data assets.
- Protect pipeline reliability by monitoring production schedules, troubleshooting failures, and ensuring processes run smoothly.
- Monitor data quality and conduct deep investigation when issues occur to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Administer Snowflake security strategy and database management.
- Fine-tune and optimize databases, queries, and pipelines to improve performance and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for automation to improve operating efficiencies within the Enterprise Data Intelligence team.
- Research and test new technologies and assist with architectural changes and database design decisions to support enterprise adoption.
- Follow documented database administrator procedures for configuration, maintenance, upgrades, testing, and deployments.
- Ensure best practices for enterprise database administration to support a sustainable design and a strong user experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer in cloud-native and SaaS-based environments, supporting enterprise data platforms built on data warehouses, data lakes, and application databases (including Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server).
- 7+ years of SQL experience, with demonstrated ability to write, optimize, and maintain complex queries and stored procedures.
- Programming experience in Python, Scala, or other scripting languages for automation, data transformation, and integration.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining ELT/ETL pipelines, dimensional models, and data marts using modern tools such as dbt, Fivetran, or equivalent frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience with SaaS data sources and APIs, including integration from cloud-based systems such as NetSuite, Oracle EPM, O9, and Salesforce.
- Exposure to or hands-on experience with AI/LLM frameworks such as Snowflake Cortex and MCP.
- Experience with data integration and orchestration tools such as Dell Boomi, Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of data governance, observability, lineage, and data quality management in a cloud environment.
- Experience with Git-based version control (e.g., GitHub, GitLab) and CI/CD workflows for deployments across DEV, QA, and PROD pipelines.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (preferably Azure, with exposure to AWS or GCP) and secure data exchange mechanisms (APIs, SFTP).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally in a distributed SaaS organization.
- Must be willing to be on call for night/weekend production support.
- Ability to think strategically about tools and technologies that enable analytics.

Work Environment
This role is based in Emeryville, CA with a hybrid schedule. If you live in the greater Bay Area, you will walk into the Emeryville office each Tuesday morning and begin the in-person portion of your hybrid week at the weekly all-company meeting. Every employee who lives within 100 miles of the offices is expected to come in Tuesday through Thursday.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical disciplines preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge with at least one key BI market tool (Tableau, SAP BO, Oracle BI, MS Power BI) is a plus.
- Must be willing to be on call for night/weekend production support.
- Experience working in CPG industry.
