Job Description
The Sr. Data Engineer role at Gesa Credit Union is based onsite in Spokane Valley, WA, and focuses on integrating and maintaining data sources within the Azure data warehouse and Databricks platform. The position emphasizes data quality, governance, and security, while partnering with leadership to treat data as a strategic asset.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Data Intelligence department on projects and committees as assigned
- Oversee the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines that move data from diverse sources into the Azure based third party data warehouse
- Collaborate with data analysts, BI analysts, data quality and data stewards, and IT staff to build and maintain scalable data models and analytics solutions
- Consolidate data from databases, APIs, and external systems while ensuring consistency, integrity, and quality
- Establish and monitor data governance practices including validation, cleansing, aggregation, and enrichment techniques
- Set and enforce data quality checks and validations in line with policies and procedures
- Optimize data processing workflows for performance, scalability, and efficiency; address bottlenecks and improve query performance
- Design and maintain scalable data engineering solutions using Databricks, including Spark based transformations, notebooks, and jobs
- Adopt Databricks best practices for cluster configuration, job orchestration, performance tuning, and cost aware design
- Implement medallion style data architectures (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to support governed and analytics ready datasets
- Enable and optimize data pipelines to support AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics use cases
- Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and innovative data engineering approaches for enhanced business insights
- Support ongoing strategic planning and monitoring for data intelligence and data governance programs
- Educate and train stakeholders on data warehouse solutions, data governance, and best practices
- Maintain expert level knowledge of core operating systems, data warehouse platforms, and data intelligence tools
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field; a master's degree is preferred
- Minimum of six years of experience in data engineering or data management disciplines
- Experience designing and operating data pipelines using Databricks in a cloud based analytics environment is preferred
- Experience in financial institution environments is preferred

About You
- Extensive experience with Databricks for data engineering workloads, including Apache Spark, job orchestration, layered data architectures, incremental processing, and optimization techniques
- Ability to leverage modern cloud based data integration tools within Azure such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, Scala, Java, Bash or PowerShell, and R
- Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and data integration
- Ability to collaborate across teams and communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills
- Excellent business sense and interpersonal skills

Full Salary Range
- Richland, WA: $97,069.57-$161,782.61
- Spokane, WA: $97,069.57-$161,782.61
- Renton, WA: $117,365.93-$195,609.89
Note: While the full pay range is listed, most new team members typically start between the minimum and midpoint based on their experience and qualifications. This structure provides room for growth within the role as career progression continues.
