What Is the Opportunity?
The Travelers Data Engineering team creates pipelines that contextualize and make data accessible for the enterprise. In this role, you will help guide the growth and transformation of the analytics landscape by delivering data solutions that support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and business intelligence and insights.
Responsibilities
- Build and operationalize data solutions, correct issues, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality improvements.
- Participate in the design of data solutions.
- Analyze data sources to determine their value and recommend which data to include in analytical processes.
- Apply core data management competencies, including data governance, data security, and data quality.
- Partner with team members and business users to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytics environment.
- Conduct data and system analysis, assessment, and resolution for defects and incidents of moderate complexity, correcting as appropriate.
- Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM related field or equivalent.
- Five years of related experience.
- Experience leveraging AI technologies, including OpenAI and AWS Bedrock, to drive innovative projects.
- Technical proficiency with Python, SQL, AWS, Databricks, and additional tools to develop robust AI applications.
- Terraform expertise to streamline infrastructure management and deployment.
- Proficiency using tools, techniques, and manipulation across cloud platforms and programming languages, with an understanding of software engineering practices.
- Ability to deliver work at a steady and predictable pace, decompose assignments into smaller batch releases, and contribute to tradeoff and negotiation discussions.
- Demonstrated domain expertise, including understanding technical concepts and in-depth knowledge of the systems worked on.
- Proven problem-solving skills, including debugging to determine the source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems and recognize and solve recurring problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and business partners.
- Intermediate leadership skills, with a proven track record of self-motivation and identifying personal growth opportunities.
- Developing knowledge of tools and techniques across cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
- 1 additional year of software/data engineering experience.

Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range is a nationwide market range and reflects a broad set of salary outcomes for this role across the country. The final salary will be determined based on factors including the scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as the candidate’s skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other employment conditions. Employees may also be eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
