The SQL Developer role at Elevance Systems is an on-site position in Irvine, California, focused on advanced T-SQL development and end-to-end database and data engineering across SQL Server, SSIS, Azure Databricks, and MuleSoft. The work also includes production support, incident response, and performance tuning.
Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced set-based T-SQL solutions using window functions, common table expressions, deduplication, and latest-record-per-key patterns, including conditional aggregation.
- Build, schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent job chains within a production environment.
- Develop and maintain SSIS packages, including debugging failures in deployed packages.
- Apply demonstrable, hands-on Azure Databricks skills using notebooks, jobs and workflows, Spark SQL and/or PySpark, and Delta Lake.
- Implement and support API integrations with MuleSoft, including Mule flows, DataWeave transformations, error handling, deployment, and production monitoring.
- Use AI-assisted development with agentic coding tools, refactor, troubleshoot, and document code, and ensure review and validation of AI-generated output before release to production.
- Perform performance tuning through execution plan analysis, index design, statistics maintenance, and investigation of queries that regress in production.
- Handle production incidents through to resolution in alignment with service-level expectations, with clear communication while an issue is open.
- Explain technical problems, root cause, and business impact to non-technical stakeholders, such as a dean or department head.
- Work 100% on site in Irvine, California during standard Pacific business hours, with no remote work option.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL development experience.
- Proficiency with window functions (ROW_NUMBER, RANK, DENSE_RANK), common table expressions, deduplication, latest-record-per-key patterns, and conditional aggregation.
- Firm, demonstrable hands-on Azure Databricks experience including notebooks, jobs and workflows, Spark SQL and/or PySpark, and Delta Lake.
- Hands-on experience building API integrations using MuleSoft, including Mule flows, DataWeave transformations, error handling, deployment, and production monitoring.
- Demonstrated productive use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Databricks Genie, OpenRouter, or Cursor to write, refactor, troubleshoot, and document code.
- Engineering judgment to review, test, and validate AI-generated output before it reaches production.
- Experience with execution plan analysis, index design, statistics maintenance, and diagnosing production query regressions.
- Ability to work incidents to resolution while meeting service-level expectations and communicating clearly during active issues.
