Software Engineer (MID)

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is building digitization and AI services that turn large historical nuclear weapons test data collections into searchable, accessible resources. This onsite role in Albuquerque, NM supports OCR, machine learning, and AI infrastructure, with an emphasis on reliable deployments, observability, and maintainable systems at Kirtland Air Force Base. Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain the infrastructure behind digitization, OCR, and machine learning analysis for massive datasets.
• Develop DevOps, MLOps, and GitOps workflows to manage application and model deployments.
• Create containerized microservices that support document processing.
• Set up monitoring systems for ML pipelines that extract metadata from historical documents and produce time-series data from image analysis.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code to support transformer model deployments.
• Establish blue-green deployments for video analysis services.
• Create automated testing pipelines for image summarization and captioning systems.
• Build search infrastructure and APIs so AI-powered analyses are discoverable and accessible.
• Implement observability across distributed ML services.
• Manage secrets and configurations.
• Build self-healing systems that automatically scale based on processing demands.
• Work with software engineers, data scientists, and application architects to build and maintain infrastructure supporting OCR, ML, and AI services for digital archive collections.
• Run CI/CD pipelines for model deployment and manage containerized microservices to support high availability for the archive platform.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain CompTIA Security+ Certification within 6 weeks of starting.
• 4+ years relevant DevOps/Software Engineering experience, or 2+ years with a relevant degree (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering).
• Strong Python skills with experience in ML/data processing libraries such as pandas and scikit-learn, plus web frameworks including Fast API and Flask.
• JavaScript proficiency with Next.js for API development and frontend tooling.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
• Container orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Required Education / Certification
