Software Engineer - Microservices Architecture

National Computing Group is hiring a Software Engineer to build and support scalable microservices-based applications in Pittsburgh, PA (onsite). The role centers on backend development with Java (Spring Boot) or Python, with hands-on work across REST APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and data-focused processing.

This position supports the full delivery lifecycle, from design and code reviews through troubleshooting and ongoing optimization, while coordinating closely with architects, UI developers, QA, and DevOps teams.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices-based applications.
• Build and enhance backend services using Java or Python.
• Create REST APIs and support system integrations.
• Implement event-driven solutions using Apache Kafka.
• Develop data processing and batch solutions.
• Work with databases to design efficient queries and optimize performance.
• Collaborate with architects, UI developers, QA, and DevOps teams.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and Agile development activities.
• Troubleshoot application issues and provide technical solutions.
• Learn and adopt new technologies as required.

Required experience

• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Strong experience with microservices architecture.
• Strong backend programming experience in either:
  • Java with Spring Boot, or
  • Python with modern backend frameworks.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with distributed systems and service-based architecture.
• Experience with messaging/event-driven platforms such as Apache Kafka.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases (with Oracle preferred).
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker.
• Experience deploying applications using OpenShift and/or Kubernetes.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.

Compensation: USD 55 - 65 per hour.
