Software Engineer/Developer IV
Job Description
Lead software engineering efforts for WSLH information systems, spanning application development, security, testing, and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
- Research and implement new development tools and infrastructure (5%)
- Research and develop approaches to automate and improve development and release processes (5%)
- Create data structures and performance strategies for systems (10%)
- Train and provide technical guidance to lower level staff (5%)
- Review systems requirements, design, and business processes to keep alignment with IT and business strategies (10%)
- Support WSLH Labs to identify solutions for testing, reporting, research, and other needs (5%)
- May supervise unit staff and help resolve routine personnel issues (5%)
- Provide expert technical direction for complex design and system integration problems (10%)
- Lead application development, integration upgrades, and maintenance projects (10%)
- Perform system analysis, interpret requirements, and produce detailed system design specifications for integrations and upgrades (10%)
- Consult with clients on project status, proposals, and technical issues (5%)
- Ensure applications and systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats (5%)
- Design and build well-integrated applications that meet current and future business needs (10%)
- Determine testing methodologies and manage comprehensive test plan development and implementation (5%)
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing applications using Java and IDEs such as Eclipse or equivalent tools
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Oracle and SQL Server databases, including advanced SQL skills and database design
- Experience with DevOps practices, including implementation and use of CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, deployments, and testing
- Experience with web application development, including secure development practices and prevention or mitigation of common cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
- Experience with software quality assurance and testing, including developing test plans, test cases, and automated or manual test scripts
- Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, architecture and code reviews, stakeholder influence, and delivery of customer-focused business outcomes

Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Working knowledge of Git-based source control collaboration tools, including GitHub and/or GitLab
- Working knowledge of Maven and artifact repository management tools such as Nexus
- Working knowledge of HL7 healthcare data exchange standards and interfaces
- Working knowledge of batch processing and batch job design
- Working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, or other scripting or programming languages
- Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (React)
- Approximately 8+ years in software engineering, application development, or enterprise solution delivery, including 7+ years with Java, Spring Boot, or comparable backend technologies
Education
- 4 year degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred

Compensation
- Minimum salary: $100,000/year
- Pay determined based on experience and qualifications using salary administration guidelines
- Actual pay set at hire
Work Model and Logistics
- Location: Madison, WI (hybrid)
- Initial training: 100% on-site
- Hybrid remote work options may be granted at manager discretion after successful training completion
- Reports under the general direction of the Director of Dev/Ops
