Software Engineer - Clinical Software
Job Description
Caris MPI, Inc. is seeking an individual contributor to build and maintain clinical software applications used in regulated workflows. This onsite role in Irving, Texas supports order-to-report throughput and places emphasis on data integrity, controlled change, and engineering practices aligned with FDA guidance and SOX controls.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain features and components across Caris clinical software platforms, delivering well-structured, testable, and documented code suitable for regulated production use.
- Participate in design and architecture discussions by evaluating technical options and trade-offs that inform team decisions.
- Engage in peer code review, maintaining code quality standards and raising issues that may affect correctness, performance, or compliance.
- Partner with product management to refine requirements, understand technical constraints, and estimate backlog items.
- Support the technical record by maintaining design documents, architecture decision records, and operational runbooks in line with SOX and FDA change-control obligations.
- Instrument, monitor, and support production systems; participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for production issues.
- Develop automated test coverage across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels as core engineering work.
- Automate recurring manual engineering and operational activities, converting repeat steps into scripted, reviewed automation.
- Participate in pair programming and structured knowledge sharing, escalating complex architectural or compliance questions to senior engineers.
- Assess technical debt and reliability risks, then propose and complete remediation to improve maintainability or compliance posture.
- Use AI coding assistants and agentic workflows as part of daily practice across design, implementation, and test generation, with peer and engineering review serving as the quality gate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software systems.
- Hands-on experience across the full SDLC in a team environment, including requirements refinement, design, implementation, testing, and release.
- Proven experience writing and maintaining automated tests for production software at the unit, integration, or end-to-end level.
- Working proficiency in code review and applying engineering standards to shared codebases.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows used in real engineering work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
