Job Description

Assurant is hiring a Software Engineer (AI Focused) for a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA. In this position, you’ll help build and ship AI-powered products in production, with work across model integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, evaluation, and the services that support real-world AI systems.

Compensation for this role is USD 74,600 - 124,700 per year, with a minimum of 2 years of professional software engineering experience required.

What you’ll do

  • Build, test, and ship production features for AI systems, including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and model orchestration components.
  • Write and maintain evaluation cases and test suites to catch regressions in AI quality before they reach users.
  • Implement and iterate on prompts, tool/function definitions, and guardrails, using evaluation results to guide changes.
  • Contribute to the services, APIs, and data pipelines that AI features depend on, including instrumentation, logging, and dashboards.
  • Investigate production issues such as latency spikes, cost anomalies, quality regressions, and failed tool calls, then implement fixes.
  • Participate in code review, design discussions, and post-incident analyses, sharing what you learn and asking questions.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to turn requirements into working software and surface tradeoffs early.
  • Keep documentation and runbooks current for the systems you own.

What you bring

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production software.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language such as Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, or C#.
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into applications, including prompting, structured outputs, and function/tool calling (via professional work, internships, or substantive personal projects).
  • Working knowledge of backend fundamentals: REST APIs, databases, version control, testing, and debugging.
  • Curiosity about real-world AI behavior, with a preference for measuring outcomes over assumptions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including comfort asking for help and providing updates.

Tools and technologies you may work with

Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, C#, REST APIs, LLM APIs, Semantic Kernel, LangGraph, LangChain, vector databases, embedding models, AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and observability tooling, Claude Code, Cursor, and RAG pipelines.

Helpful experience

  • Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks such as Semantic Kernel, LangGraph, or LangChain.
  • Exposure to vector databases, embedding models, or semantic search.
  • Experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) plus containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, and observability tooling.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalents.
  • Awareness of responsible AI practices, including safety testing, content filtering, and bias considerations.
  • Open-source contributions, technical writing, or side projects involving LLMs.

Role details and application

  • Location: Atlanta, GA (hybrid). Hybrid role base out of the Atlanta or Miami office.
  • Expected application deadline: 09/25/2026
  • Interview process: All virtual interviews must be conducted on video.
