Job Description

P3S CORPORATION seeks a senior Software Engineer to provide integrated, senior-level systems and software engineering support for the Department of the Air Force Financial Management enterprise. This role operates in a mission-critical environment and spans engineering work across software, infrastructure, databases, cybersecurity, configuration management, testing, deployment validation, sustainment, and documentation.

Role Overview

In this position, you will analyze existing systems and proposed modifications, assess technical deficiencies and operational requirements, and recommend corrective engineering solutions. You will also support the full engineering lifecycle, including requirements and technical analysis through implementation, testing, deployment, validation, sustainment, corrective action, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing systems, proposed modifications, technical deficiencies, operational requirements, and system dependencies to determine appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate how proposed changes affect application functionality, infrastructure, database services, cybersecurity controls, system performance, configuration baselines, and operational availability.
  • Develop and recommend corrective engineering solutions for technical problems and support implementation of approved modifications to maintain usability and mission capability as technical environments evolve.
  • Ensure engineering decisions account for immediate technical needs and downstream impacts across interconnected systems and technical domains.
  • Support the complete engineering lifecycle from technical analysis through testing, deployment, validation, sustainment, and corrective action.
  • Provide senior technical recommendations to Government and contractor stakeholders regarding enhancements, modernization, sustainment, risks, dependencies, and technical alternatives.
  • Support maintenance of controlled development and test environments, including defining and maintaining appropriate configuration controls for development and test assets.
  • Analyze software updates, patches, enhancements, configuration changes, and system modifications before production deployment, including technical testing support and validation criteria development.
  • Verify that patches, updates, enhancements, and system modifications function as intended, and evaluate interoperability and technical dependencies between modified components and the environment.
  • Identify defects, unexpected behavior, incompatibilities, performance impacts, and security concerns before production release.
  • Support test-data management and protection requirements, including secure backup and off-site storage requirements for development data.
  • Document test results, deficiencies, remediation actions, residual risks, and production-readiness findings, and recommend whether modifications are technically ready for production deployment.
  • Review technical requirements, dependencies, interfaces, implementation plans, rollback considerations, and potential operational impacts; participate in technical and configuration reviews and change-control activities.
  • Coordinate with system administrators, database personnel, cybersecurity specialists, program leadership, and other engineers prior to significant technical changes.
  • Support controlled deployment of approved modifications and verify configuration control integrity following implementation, including post-deployment technical validation and performance analysis.
  • Recommend rollback or corrective actions if deployed changes do not achieve required results, and document final implementation status, technical outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Operate as a senior technical integrator across multiple engineering disciplines, evaluating dependencies across software, databases, middleware, infrastructure, network services, cybersecurity controls, and operational processes.
  • Incorporate cybersecurity requirements into engineering decisions and coordinate with cybersecurity personnel when modifications affect security controls, configurations, interfaces, or system boundaries.
  • Support implementation and technical validation of applicable security controls, evaluate cybersecurity impacts, and support vulnerability remediation activities requiring software, system, infrastructure, or configuration modifications.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable Federal, DoD, and Air Force cybersecurity requirements affecting assigned systems, including support for RMF and Assessment and Authorization-related implementation activities when assigned.
  • Evaluate proposed changes against approved system configuration baselines, ensure changes are documented before implementation, and verify baseline integrity after implementation to identify and address configuration drift.
  • Support traceability between approved requirements, modifications, testing, implementation, and final configuration, and maintain version control and technical-documentation governance.
  • Perform structured analysis of complex system problems, including root-cause analysis, distinguishing symptoms from underlying causes, and developing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support Level III technical escalation activities and assist in debugging complex infrastructure, interoperability, system-modification, and application-related issues, including mission-impact assessment and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Participate in and, when assigned, provide senior technical leadership during configuration reviews, engineering reviews, readiness reviews, technical planning meetings, change-control activities, deployment reviews, corrective-action reviews, integration meetings, root-cause investigations, program technical discussions, and Government technical briefings.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, implementation concerns, resource impacts, and readiness issues requiring resolution before significant system changes proceed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related technical discipline.
  • IASAE Level 1 and/or the applicable DoD 8140 632-Intermediate qualifications required by the contract/government.
  • US Citizen/Active Secret/Whatever level is confirmed by the DD254.
  • Obtain and maintain the security and suitability determinations required for assigned duties.
  • Meet requirements established in the applicable DD254.
  • Obtain and maintain required Government system and installation access.
  • Satisfy background-investigation requirements applicable to assigned system privileges.
  • Obtain and properly safeguard any required Common Access Card or Restricted Area Badge.
  • Complete required Air Force Information Assurance Awareness Training before accessing applicable Government computing resources.
  • Comply with Air Force Instructions, Air Force System Security Instructions, Air Force security memoranda, and local installation security procedures.
  • Immediately report known or suspected security incidents as required.
  • Protect Government information, systems, equipment, credentials, and resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior DoD enterprise systems engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical or highly available systems.
  • Experience with Air Force Financial Management or comparable Government financial systems.
  • Experience supporting AFFSO, SAF/FM, AFIMSC, or related organizations.
  • Experience working in environments governed by RMF and formal authorization requirements.
  • Experience implementing or validating IAVA, TCNO, vulnerability-remediation, or comparable cybersecurity directives.
  • Experience with development/test and production environments governed by formal configuration controls.
  • Experience providing Level III engineering or technical escalation support.
  • Experience coordinating software, infrastructure, database, middleware, and cybersecurity engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting system modernization, lifecycle sustainment, or major technical upgrades.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or serving as a senior technical lead.
  • Experience briefing technical recommendations to Government program managers or leadership.
