Job Description

UpPoint, Inc. is hiring a Software Engineer to build modern full-stack web applications in Los Angeles. This onsite role focuses on shipping production-ready software across the stack, from responsive frontends to backend services, APIs, and database performance. You will work with established tools and workflows, including Git-based development and CI/CD pipelines, while collaborating with designers and engineers to deliver high-quality features.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain web applications using React.js and Vue.js
  • Develop backend services using Laravel and PHP (with Node.js or Python as additional options)
  • Design RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services such as payments, webhooks, and external APIs
  • Design and optimize MySQL databases, including schema design, indexing, and query performance tuning
  • Implement authentication, authorization, and secure handling of data across the application
  • Write unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews
  • Optimize application performance through caching, lazy loading, and query improvements
  • Manage deployments and contribute to CI/CD pipeline workflows
  • Write clean, maintainable code, troubleshoot issues, and improve existing applications
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to deliver reliable software releases

What you’ll need

  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Hands-on backend experience with Laravel and PHP (required); Node.js or Python frameworks are a plus
  • Strong MySQL / SQL skills, including schema design and query optimization
  • Strong JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
  • Experience working with Git-based development workflows
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Daily development familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot

Compensation and location

Salary: From $60,000 per year.

Location: Los Angeles, CA 90010 (onsite, in person).
