Job Description

The Software Engineer role at MANTECH is based onsite in Norfolk, Virginia, and supports the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE). The position emphasizes software development, integration, lifecycle management, and collaboration across multiple disciplines to sustain and enhance NCTE capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structured, measurable processes to the development, operation, and maintenance of software systems that support the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE).
  • Design and implement complex software solutions to improve or sustain NCTE, including capabilities that integrate tactical systems with simulation-based training interfaces; perform testing and debugging as part of the development lifecycle.
  • Execute full software lifecycle activities and maintenance in alignment with contractual requirements, legal standards, and governing guidelines.
  • Identify and define software information and engineering requirements that match system complexity to meet customer expectations.
  • Diagnose technical problems and apply appropriate procedures, knowledge, tools, and methods across software requirements, design, construction, testing, and maintenance tasks.
  • Research and propose solutions using contemporary technologies to enhance customer outcomes and product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary team members, including computer science, computer engineering, management, mathematics, project management, quality management, software ergonomics, and systems engineering to integrate software engineering practices.
  • Communicate complex engineering concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including digital logic, circuit analysis, and embedded systems programming.
  • 5+ years of software development experience in both classified and unclassified environments, specifically related to Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) and Joint Simulation Bus (JBUS).
  • Experience developing software using C/C++ and Java.
  • Knowledge of systems design or development lifecycle (SDLC), software systems theory and engineering principles, network and systems design and implementation, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
  • IAT-II level certification at a minimum, in accordance with SECNAV M-5239.2 and DoD 8140/8570 (for example, CompTIA Sec+).
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with web development and architecture.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time.
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • Occasional movement within the office to access file cabinets and office machinery.
