Job Description

Labsphere, Inc. is hiring a Full Stack Software Developer to help build and modernize desktop software used with advanced photonics, industrial, and measurement hardware. The position focuses on connecting applications to instrumentation through a hardware abstraction layer, including lsapi.dll, while reworking core software platforms for long-term maintainability and performance.

Role Overview

This role delivers software solutions that control and interact with Labsphere systems, with many deliverables targeting deployment in a desktop environment. The work includes evaluating legacy systems, defining updated architecture approaches, and building next-generation applications that improve user experience, system performance, and lifecycle sustainability. The role has significant visibility with internal and external stakeholders and requires an on-site presence in North Sutton, NH, with flexibility for some remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain applications that control and interact with Labsphere systems
  • Review and interpret user and system requirements
  • Build intuitive, reliable software solutions using JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern frameworks
  • Design and implement user-facing applications that communicate with and manage hardware systems for measurement, calibration, and data acquisition
  • Apply advanced business logic alongside data and file management needs specific to each project
  • Reimagine and rebuild key applications with emphasis on modern user experience, improved performance, maintainability, and long-term lifecycle sustainability
  • Evaluate legacy systems
  • Define updated architecture approaches
  • Use lsapi.dll as a foundation for integrating and controlling Labsphere instrumentation
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks while contributing technically, balancing engineering best practices with business objectives and timelines

Required Qualifications

  • Full stack development experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, with a focus on desktop application development (for example, Electron or similar frameworks)
  • Experience designing and building user applications that interface with hardware systems
  • Familiarity with integrating and working against native libraries or APIs, including DLLs such as lsapi.dll
  • Experience creating intuitive user interfaces for controlling instrumentation, monitoring system state, and visualizing data
  • Experience with asynchronous data handling, device communication, and real-time data processing
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and performance optimization
  • Ability to proactively propose and implement practical solutions to technical challenges
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and hardware teams
  • Ability to make informed technical decisions and assess risk based on available information

Education

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred / Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with hardware communication protocols (USB, RS-232, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques and tools for scientific or engineering applications
  • Experience with C/C++ or .NET interop for working with native libraries
  • Understanding of instrument control systems, calibration workflows, or scientific software environments
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and software lifecycle management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience presenting technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Compensation and Location

  • Location: North Sutton, NH (onsite)
  • Pay: USD 105,000 - 145,000 per year
