Simulation Generative Data Engineer
Job Description
Work onsite in Cupertino with a team building next-generation simulation technology for AI/ML. As a Simulation Generative Data Engineer at Apple, you will create synthetic data and tools that turn inputs like text, images, video, and sensor data into 3D assets, scenes, and scenarios. You will collaborate across engineering, research, and creative disciplines while developing prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and production pipelines.
What you’ll do
- Build, enhance, and operate tools and pipelines that generate 3D assets, scenes, and scenarios from inputs such as text, images, video, or other sensor data using contemporary generative models alongside procedural techniques.
- Create assets and scenes that support offline rendering and/or real-time rendering for a range of downstream uses.
- Design and implement prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and production systems to increase the ability to create and vary simulation scenarios.
- Develop tools, APIs, and reusable components so other teams can generate, manage, and automate these workflows, including integrating with existing Apple tools and pipelines.
- Stay current with advances in simulation, rendering, generative models, VLMs, and synthetic data from academia, industry, and within Apple, then introduce new approaches where they add value.
Core requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with solid software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience creating 3D data with generative models, especially when coordinated with traditional approaches.
- Experience with 3D graphics or game engines, including topics such as rendering, animation, scene graphs, or content pipelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners including engineers, artists, and researchers.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with USD and its APIs.
Helpful experience
- Programming experience in C++.
- Experience with real-time simulation and game engines such as Unreal, Unity, Godot, Omniverse, or custom engines.
- Experience with real-time and offline rendering, including ray tracing, lighting, or shading.
- Familiarity with MaterialX.
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows, especially perception tasks, generative models, or VLMs.
- Knowledge of physics simulation, sensor simulation, or physically-based modeling.
- Experience with industrial/commercial simulation tools or large-scale data pipelines.
