Senior Textile Developer

Senior Raw Material Developer role based in Los Angeles, CA, onsite, with a compensation range of USD 115,000 to 125,000 annually.

Responsibilities

• Direct fabric sourcing and custom development initiatives, plus seasonal fabric fair presentations for the men’s line, with occasional input for the women’s segment.
• redevelop core fabrics with strategic overseas and regional suppliers to meet performance specifications, testing requirements, cost targets, and quality standards.
• Attend fabric shows, study market trends, and relay insights to the Raw Materials and Design teams.
• Develop strategies to address fabric performance, lead times, and delivery risks.
• Collaborate with mills and the Product Integrity team to ensure fabrics comply with third‑party testing standards, adjusting materials as needed.
• Coordinate with the Material Coordinator to establish core fabric standards and maintain data accuracy in PLM systems and development charts.
• Oversee seasonal color block testing for both men’s and women’s teams, ensuring thorough evaluation and timely feedback.
• Drive special fabric developments for athlete‑specific projects, the atelier, and chase programs, aligning them with the broader product strategy.
• Manage and mentor multiple direct reports, promoting growth, accountability, and high performance.
• Oversee workflow delegation, provide constructive feedback, and support cross‑team collaboration to ensure timely project delivery.
• Contribute to calendar planning with input on timelines and priorities.
• Help establish and refine Standard Operating Procedures for the materials team to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Provide technical support to the Design team to enable innovative, high‑quality fabric solutions.
• Manage SMS greige projections, aligning with the PD team and garment factories.
• Meet with mills virtually and in person to discuss new developments, troubleshoot issues, and ensure fabric quality and performance standards.
• Execute end‑to‑end wear testing, track results, and align with cross‑functional partners.
• Serve as the primary quality gatekeeper for bulk approvals, ensuring compliance with hand standards and performance expectations.
• Drive vendor accountability through root cause analysis, corrective action, and mitigation of delivery impact.
• Coordinate cross‑functional alignment across Design, PD, Technical Design, and mills to resolve development challenges.
• Provide strategic input on fabric adoption and category direction.
• Ensure consistency from development through SMS, mini bulk, and production.
• Lead and participate in cross‑functional meetings with senior leadership, clearly communicating material development status, risks, and key decisions.
• Present fabric developments, quality concerns, and strategic recommendations to executive teams, aligning with brand standards and product vision.
• Represent the Materials team in high‑visibility meetings, ensuring executives understand material priorities and constraints.

Requirements

• More than 6 years of experience with deep technical expertise in textiles, including fibers, yarns, construction, finishes, and printing.
• Strong preference for experience with performance fabrications.
• Proven ability to manage and mentor a direct report, fostering collaboration and effective delivery.
• Established relationships with fabric suppliers and a track record of navigating challenges while maintaining positive partnerships.
• In-depth knowledge of AATCC and ASTM test methods and fabric manufacturing processes.
• Experience attending fabric shows and presenting findings.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment with shifting deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PLM systems, ensuring accuracy in development records and charts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and tactfully.
