Senior Staff / Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Senior Staff Machine Learning and AI Engineer in Boulder, CO (onsite) responsible for designing, training, and optimizing high performance models for remote sensor data, integrated into production Linux software within an Agile team; salary range USD 127,000 to 193,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy ML, DL, and AI algorithms to extract insights from remote sensor data.
• Design, train, and refine models for image analysis, object detection and tracking, and multi-modal sensor fusion.
• Implement high-throughput inference pipelines for large-scale, real-time or near-real-time data processing.
• Collaborate with C++ and systems engineers to integrate ML/AI components into existing software frameworks.
• Apply rigorous software engineering practices to ensure model reproducibility, performance, and maintainability.
• Contribute within an Agile team, helping build shared tooling, workflows, and documentation.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a related field; additional education may substitute for years of professional experience.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in machine learning, AI engineering, or applied algorithm development.
• At least three years of hands-on Linux experience.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
• Strong understanding of data structures, numerical methods, and algorithm design.
• Experience optimizing models and pipelines for high data throughput.
• Experience with feature engineering and statistical tests, including Mutual Information and Shapley Analysis.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work full-time on-site at the Boulder, CO office.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GPU programming and acceleration (CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT, ROCm, etc.)
• Direct experience applying ML/AI techniques to OPIR, EO, SAR, Spectral, RF, or other remotely sensed data
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles, including object-oriented design and SOLID
• Experience deploying ML models in production, MLOps pipelines, or real-time inference systems
• Familiarity with C++17/20/23, especially for model integration or high-performance compute components
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a related field
• Professional fluency in Python, Rust, or C++
• Prior experience in Agile software development environments
• Active DoD SECRET clearance or higher
