Senior Staff AI-Native Software Engineer – Agentic Systems

ServiceNow’s AI Engineering and Delivery team is hiring a Senior Staff AI-Native Software Engineer to design and deliver production agentic AI systems and enterprise-scale search capabilities. The role supports autonomous agents deployed across the ServiceNow platform, with an emphasis on trust, safety, governance, and retrieval grounding.

Role Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production-grade agentic AI systems embedded across ServiceNow’s platform, including autonomous agents that reason over real enterprise data, act across workflows, and run safely at Fortune 500 scale.
• Design and ship multi-agent systems such as orchestration, tool use, planning loops, memory, and failure recovery, ensuring reliable production behavior rather than notebook-only prototypes.
• Build agents that use ServiceNow’s data layer, including CMDB, Workflow Data Fabric, and the Knowledge Graph, to make context-aware decisions beyond what frontier models can achieve alone.
• Own deployment guardrails including observability, human-in-the-loop controls, and compliance infrastructure for safe, scalable autonomous systems.
• Collaborate with the search team to ensure agents are grounded in accurate, low-latency retrieval, including RAG pipelines, hybrid search, re-ranking, and evaluation.
• Integrate frontier models (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI) into the Sense Decide Act Govern architecture and evaluate trade-offs across cost, latency, and capability for production use cases.
• Raise the technical bar through architecture decisions, code reviews, and engineering coaching, with a focus on agentic design patterns and production AI discipline.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience designing, shipping, and operating agentic systems in production, including multi-agent orchestration, tool calling, planning loops, memory, and failure recovery.
• Production-grade Python.
• Systems-language experience (Go, Java, or C++) is a plus.
• Working experience with frontier AI SDKs (Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI), including prompt engineering, structured outputs, and model evaluation in production settings.
• Familiarity with RAG and production retrieval patterns, including vector stores, hybrid search, and retrieval evaluation metrics.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, raising the code quality bar, and mentoring engineers on production AI practices.
• Deeper specialization in search and retrieval at scale or MLOps/model observability.
• Published work or open-source contributions in agentic systems or retrieval.
• Exposure to LLM fine-tuning or inference optimization in production.

• Salary range: USD 201,300 - 352,300 per year.
