Senior Software Engineer - Tech 360

Join M&T Bank in a hybrid Buffalo, NY role where you will help advance the Tech 360 enterprise technology platform. This Senior Software Engineer position focuses on designing and delivering scalable solutions for technology reporting, with opportunities to lead technical implementation, build secure APIs and applications, and strengthen engineering practices across Agile and/or SAFe delivery teams.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and support enterprise-grade applications using one or more programming languages.
• Build and maintain REST APIs, responsive web applications, ETL solutions, and scalable database systems aligned to business and technology objectives.
• Write organized, clean, efficient, secure, and maintainable source code at an advanced level, applying appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve business problems.
• Lead implementation of cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes, containers, and a microservices architecture.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing and deployment.
• Define and implement API and integration strategies across enterprise platforms.
• Partner with architects and security teams to implement authorization and policy-driven access controls.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence, resiliency, and operational best practices.
• Contribute to Agile and/or SAFe planning, estimation, execution, and continuous improvement.
• Follow M&T Bank risk and regulatory standards, identify risk-related issues that require escalation, and maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and external regulator findings.
• Support a culture of belonging consistent with the M&T Bank brand, and complete other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

• Associate’s degree and minimum 5 years systems analysis and/or application development, or Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years in systems analysis and/or application development. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years education and/or relevant work experience, including minimum 3 years system analysis and/or application development work.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Angular and/or modern front-end development experience.
• Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native development experience.
• CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.
• Advanced proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages.
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, application architecture, and SDLC methodologies.

Preferred experience

• Ability to build executive-facing reporting, analytics, or dashboard solutions that translate complex data into actionable insights.
• Strong experience integrating data from multiple sources, including APIs, databases, data warehouses, and cloud platforms.
• Strong experience with data visualization and reporting technologies including Power BI, Tableau, Chart.js, D3.js, or equivalent tools.
• Experience designing scalable application architectures focused on performance, security, maintainability, and reliability.
• Proficiency with SQL and data modeling concepts, including dimensional models, KPIs, metrics, and reporting frameworks.
• Experience building centralized reporting platforms, operational intelligence systems, or executive decision-support applications.

Compensation: USD 97,100 to 161,800 per year. Location: Buffalo, NY (hybrid). Education: Bachelor’s degree.
