Job Description
News Corp is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Realtor.com Owners & Sellers team, where you will take ownership of mission-critical platform components and help drive initiatives that improve both consumer experience and business outcomes. This role combines modern full-stack development with cloud-native engineering to scale performance, reliability, and development velocity.
Based in Austin, TX, this position works onsite and centers on technical leadership across squads, from early discovery through implementation and post-launch iteration.
What you’ll do
- Own systems and platform evolutions for key parts of the Owners & Sellers application, defining service boundaries, contracts, and data models.
- Contribute to architecture discussions and help produce technical design documents and implementation proposals.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers across cross-squad initiatives end-to-end, including discovery, technical design, implementation, rollout, and iteration.
- Maintain and improve codebase stability, readability, and scalability across backend services and frontend architecture using React and Next.js.
- Drive performance improvements and help optimize Core Web Vitals, including INP metrics, across pages.
- Lead operational excellence by ensuring services meet SLAs, influencing incident response, and working to reduce incident volume and MTTR.
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and Designers to define and sequence work that supports business goals and platform health.
- Use AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate development, generate boilerplate, and troubleshoot complex debugging issues, while verifying security and accuracy with critical judgment.
- Provide technical leadership across teams by coaching engineers, reviewing PRs for high-risk changes, and aligning teams on shared patterns.
What you bring
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial time in large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong full-stack background, including extensive frontend experience with TypeScript, React, and Apollo GraphQL, plus deep backend proficiency with Node.js and GraphQL.
- Proven experience using modern AI-assisted SDLC environments and engineering agents (for example, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and driving AI adoption at scale.
- Experience designing and operating cloud-native services on AWS, including EKS, Docker containers, and managed databases, along with CI/CD orchestration such as CircleCI, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.
- Solid grounding in system design, data modeling, API design, responsive design principles, and CSS technologies such as PandaCSS and CSS3.
- Comfort with observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces such as NewRelic and Splunk) and using production data to debug, optimize, and harden systems.
- Ability to set technical direction, align multiple teams without formal authority, and explain complex trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/related field or equivalent professional experience.
