Senior Software Engineer
Job Description
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the Cash modernization initiative, focused on modernizing and automating cash processing capabilities. The role emphasizes strategy and delivery for highly complex, large-scale solutions spanning applications, platforms, and integrations in a hybrid work environment based in Charlotte, NC.
Role Focus
The engineer will lead technical modernization efforts across cash processing systems, with responsibilities that include consolidation, re-platforming, and ongoing improvement across cash management and cash forecasting capabilities. In parallel, the role includes internalizing third-party image software through cloud services and integration patterns that connect workflow, data streaming, and APIs.
Responsibilities
- Modernize, consolidate, and re-platform cash processing applications to streamline technology and enable continuous improvement in areas such as cash management and cash forecasting.
- Internalize third-party image software using cloud platforms, Object Store, a Workflow engine, a data stream, and APIs.
- Serve as an advisor to leadership on application direction and influence areas including network, information security, database, operating systems, and web technologies for highly complex business and technical requirements across multiple groups.
- Lead strategy and resolution for highly complex and unique challenges, applying in-depth evaluation across multiple domains or the enterprise to deliver long-term, large-scale solutions requiring vision, creativity, innovation, and advanced analytical thinking.
- Translate organizational tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technology environment, organizational structure, and strategic technology opportunities into technical engineering solutions.
- Provide vision, direction, and subject-matter expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions.
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices and new technologies, recommending innovations that improve operations or support competitive advantage.
- Engage with professionals and managers across the enterprise and act as an expert advisor to leadership.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- 4+ years of application development and implementation experience.
- 4+ years of Java/J2EE web application development experience, including Spring core.
- 4+ years of API-driven development experience, including working with remote data via SOAP, REST, and JSON.
- 1+ year of experience leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) technologies and AI-assisted development platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Devin, Claude, or similar tools.

Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with cash processing payments landscape.
- Certification in Google/Azure Cloud, AWS Associate level, or Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) developer.
- Container and Kubernetes experience.
- Experience in development of React.
- Experience with Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) and Domain Driven Development (DDD).
- Hands-on experience using BDD testing frameworks such as Cucumber or Karate.
- Strong fundamentals in OOAD, multi-threaded application development, design and implementation of web applications, and design patterns.
- Experience in Consumer Banking or complex middleware applications.
- Experience with application performance tuning, scaling, security, and resiliency best practices.
- Hands-on experience delivering high-value projects in Agile (SCRUM), preferably using Jira.
- Previous experience working at a financial institution.
