Senior Software Engineer

David Joseph & Company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build a growth-stage, AI-native go-to-market platform based in San Francisco. This role focuses on shipping and operating distributed systems end to end, alongside the development of AI-native agent systems designed to perform at true scale.

You will own meaningful systems and features from design through production and ongoing day-to-day operation. The work includes making pragmatic technology choices for complex distributed problems, then driving ambiguous work to reliable, performant outcomes with cost in mind.

Responsibilities

• Own significant systems and features end to end, spanning design, production delivery, and day-to-day operation
• Build and operate large-scale distributed systems, selecting and combining technologies aligned to the problem
• Address hard, ambiguous problems and drive them to shipped results, with responsibility for reliability, performance, and cost
• Build AI-native agent systems used at scale

Requirements

• 5–8 years of backend or full-stack engineering experience centered on large-scale distributed systems
• Hands-on experience in a startup, an AI-native company, or an early or founding-engineer environment
• Demonstrated experience owning and operating high-scale distributed systems with 100K+ users
• Evidence of increasing scope and responsibility over time rather than staying flat at one level
• Strong system design ability for large-scale data and distributed systems
• Currently at (or recently from) a high-growth engineering organization, with strong database background or experience building LLM-powered systems
• Comfort working across Ruby/Rails, Python, and MongoDB or Elasticsearch
• Based in the SF Bay Area and able to work hybrid, three days a week on-site

Compensation & Benefits

• Compensation: USD 170,000 - 311,000 per year
• Additional: Competitive compensation plus equity

• A CS degree from a strong program (weighted less heavily if you have 5+ years of strong experience)
• Day-to-day use of AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot or Cursor

Role details: Full-time. Location is San Francisco, CA with a hybrid work policy (3 days/week in office). Visa sponsorship is available for visa transfers (for example, OPT, H-1B transfers).
