Senior Software Engineer
Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer on Akamai’s Custom Government Engineering Team, you will support and extend custom platform frameworks, automated build systems, distributed cloud databases, and storage ecosystems. The role emphasizes secure, resilient, high-performance application delivery network capabilities, with close collaboration across Engineering, Operations, and SRE to deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and improve solutions.
Responsibilities
- Manage CI/CD pipelines, enhance software tools, and develop testing frameworks to uphold release quality standards.
- Lead technical initiatives with ownership across the design, deployment, and ongoing evolution of custom government network platforms.
- Design and build next-generation capabilities for custom platform services in a collaborative environment.
- Oversee code reviews, apply security patches, and identify continuous improvements for software delivery and system performance.
- Coordinate cross-functional SDLC release cycles using modern Agile practices and AI-assisted workflows.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, and SRE teams to investigate and troubleshoot complex technical system issues.
Requirements
- 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Linux or Unix administration, configuration, system-level software development, and debugging tools.
- Proficiency in Linux shell scripting and interpretive languages, including Python or Perl.
- Experience managing CI/CD automation pipelines using Jenkins or similar continuous integration tooling.
- Hands-on familiarity with Docker containers, NoSQL databases, cloud storage, and networking protocols.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture, Public Key Infrastructure standards, systems security, and security patching.
- US Citizenship and eligibility to undergo the required security clearance process (an active clearance is not required).

Work Location and Flexibility
Location: United States (onsite).
FlexBase: Akamai’s FlexBase program supports employees working at home, in an office, or a combination of both.
Compensation
For US based candidates only, the base salary for this position ranges from $121,400 - $218,600 per year. Salary is determined based on factors including relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may include incentive compensation opportunities such as annual bonus or incentives, equity awards, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). Eligibility requirements apply.
