Senior Software Engineer

Huxley is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a Chicago-based trading technology startup building and scaling the systems behind trading, market data, clearing, and post-trade workflows. This is a hands-on, high-performance Java backend position spanning design and delivery through production.

Role Overview

You will work on backend services used for real-time market data delivery, exchange integrations, regulatory workflows, and trade processing. The role emphasizes ownership of complex technical work and contribution across the full development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale systems that support trading, market data, clearing, and post-trade workflows
• Develop and improve high-performance backend services for real-time market data, exchange integrations, regulatory workflows, and trade processing
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Participate in architectural discussions and help deliver reliable, scalable solutions
• Address complex technical challenges and take ownership of assigned work
• Contribute to projects from design through production

Requirements

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience building with APIs, distributed systems, messaging/event-driven architectures, and SQL
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in trading, fintech, market data, or other high-throughput systems is a plus
• Experience with FIX, exchange connectivity, clearing, or risk systems is helpful but not required
• Ability to work onsite in Chicago’s Loop 2-3 days per week or work fully remote

Location

Chicago, IL (hybrid), with the option to be fully remote.

Compensation

USD 160,000 per year (listed salary range: USD 160,000 - 160,000 per yearly).
