Job Description

The Senior Software Developer role at J. Morrissey centers on designing, building, and maintaining software with a strong C++ focus for performance-critical systems, including cloud-native architectures and distributed applications.

Overview

Location: Newington, CT (onsite). Salary: USD 120,000 - 140,000 per year. Experience required: 5+ years. This position emphasizes delivering robust software solutions through modern development practices, with an emphasis on C++ expertise across scalable, cloud-enabled environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications using current development frameworks and tools.
  • Create and maintain software components implemented in C++.
  • Architect and implement RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams to capture requirements and define system designs.
  • Integrate native C++ components with modern application platforms and services.
  • Optimize software for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote software engineering best practices.
  • Develop automated testing, establish CI/CD pipelines, and streamline deployment processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across multiple technology stacks.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmap planning.
  • Maintain technical documentation and development standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in modern C++. Experience with .NET and C# is preferred.
  • Strong experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL.
  • Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proven track record of developing and supporting large-scale software systems.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software architecture principles.
  • Experience using Git or similar source control systems.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
