Senior Machine Learning Engineer focused on Generative AIUX products for AWS, responsible for building AI powered design and prototyping tools and leading end-to-end GenAI platform development.

Role overview

Based in East Palo Alto, CA, this position advances Generative AI User Experience initiatives for AWS, with a focus on Venue and Arena. The role involves shaping AI driven design and prototyping capabilities, while guiding the overall GenAI platform architecture and roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate backend systems to manage asynchronous data flows from large language models and other AI services.
• Ensure maximum speed and responsiveness of AI driven interfaces, especially when handling large datasets or real-time streaming output.
• Design and own end-to-end systems spanning backend services, APIs, data storage, and frontend integration.
• Build and evolve GenAI powered services that support design generation, validation, and automation workflows.
• Contribute to the long-term technical vision and architecture decisions.
• Balance short-term delivery with scalable, maintainable system design.
• Collaborate with internal teams to understand needs and translate them into robust solutions.
• Contribute to hiring, mentor junior engineers, and raise the engineering bar.

Required qualifications

• Five or more years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• Five or more years of programming experience in at least one software programming language.
• Five or more years leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
• Experience with emerging generative and agentic technologies.
• Experience in machine learning and data science.

Compensation and location

Salary range is USD 193,300 to 261,500 per year. This role is onsite in East Palo Alto, CA.

Role description

Help shape new Generative AIUX products for AWS customers by joining a team that builds AI powered tools enabling design driven development and innovation for builders.

Our GenAIUX work centers on a shared platform used across multiple products and on AI assisted tools that leverage the AWS Cloudscape Design System to speed interface creation, development, and validation workflows.

The two focal products are Venue, an internal AI powered prototyping tool for AWS builders to create features using the AWS Cloudscape Design System, and Arena, an external version that scales the offering for Amazon and external customers with emphasis on rapid 0-1 prototyping.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in generative and agentic AI and data analysis to craft intelligent AI applications. You will collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to enhance the generative AI platform and influence product direction.
