Senior Java Software Engineer / Scrum Master

Leidos is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer / Scrum Master to support next-generation flight service and air traffic systems in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. This hybrid role in Eagan, MN blends approximately equal portions hands-on Java microservices development and Agile Scrum Master responsibilities for a SAFe team.

In this position, you will contribute to the design and delivery of secure, cloud-native software while helping the team improve sprint predictability through effective Agile facilitation. You will also coordinate with engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress.

Role Focus

• ~50% software engineering: Design, develop, test, review, debug, deploy, and maintain production-quality cloud-native Java microservices, including participation in software architecture and technical design decisions.
• ~50% Scrum Master: Facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, support continuous improvement, and help the team deliver predictable sprint outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Apply modern DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering best practices to accelerate delivery of secure, high-quality software.
• Coordinate with the Release Train Engineer, management, and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate team status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress.
• Support deployment, operational troubleshooting, and resolution of critical issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster collaboration across engineering teams to support successful sprint execution and delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 6+ years of prior experience (Doctorate may also apply).
• 5+ years designing, developing, testing, and reviewing Java applications.
• 2+ years serving as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team in a large-scale software development environment.
• Extensive web development experience with React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Extensive experience with unit testing tools such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and data formats including JSON, XML, and XSD.
• Significant experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot.
• Significant experience with Linux.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
• Experience with common development tools and IDEs such as Eclipse and VS Code.
• Knowledge of sound software development principles and practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability determination.
• US citizenship required.
