Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Travelers is seeking a Senior Data Engineer (onsite) in Hartford, CT to build and operationalize complex data solutions that support analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Build and operationalize complex data solutions, including troubleshooting, applying transformations, and recommending data cleansing and quality improvements
- Design complex data solutions, incorporating new data sources and ensuring consistency across projects aligned to data strategies
- Analyze complex data sources to determine value, usage, and which data to include in analytical workflows
- Apply core data management competencies across data governance, data security, and data quality
- Serve as a data and technology subject matter expert for business lines, supporting delivery and educating end users on data products and the analytics environment
- Perform data and system analysis, assessments, and resolution for high-complexity defects and incidents, correcting as appropriate
- Collaborate across teams to support delivery and enable end-user understanding of complex data products and analytics environments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM-related field or equivalent
- 10 years of related experience
- Experience with data pipelining, data processing, and data warehousing, with a strong foundation in data engineering principles and practices
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and transformation tools: Databricks, Snowflake, and dbt (DBT)
- Proficiency with ETL tools such as AbInitio or Informatica, plus experience working with AWS or Azure
- Demonstrated technical leadership and/or supervisory experience, ideally within a large enterprise or corporate environment
- Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to drive workflow efficiency and optimize engineering processes
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms, programming languages, and modern software engineering practices, including design strategy, automated testing, quality assurance, and system health monitoring for production readiness
- Strong problem-solving using data and proofs of concept, with measured impact and optimized outcomes, supported by domain expertise and staying current with industry trends
- Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts for business audiences, clearly document initiatives, build business partnerships, influence priorities, and drive action in ambiguous situations
- Must have: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience
- Must have: 6 additional years of data engineering experience

Compensation
- Salary Range: USD $139,400 - $230,000 per year
