Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer position supports Musco’s Information Technology team in the Oskaloosa, IA office. The role is focused on building enterprise data platforms and semantic models, strengthening data quality and governance, and delivering scalable data engineering solutions for analytics, AI, and LLM-driven use cases.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise semantic and ontology models that enable advanced analytics, AI, and LLM-driven solutions.
- Create and maintain enterprise data quality and validation frameworks to identify, monitor, and communicate data integrity issues and ensure trusted data across the organization.
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to design data pipelines and solutions aligned with evolving needs and strategic objectives.
- Architect scalable data engineering patterns and optimize data solutions for performance, scalability, observability, and long-term maintainability across data warehouses and lake houses.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD processes, deployment standards, and engineering best practices that support reliable delivery of semantic models and data solutions.
- Integrate data lineage, metadata management, and observability features to improve transparency, traceability, and operational effectiveness.
- Support enterprise data governance, security, and compliance efforts by implementing data access controls, including Row Level Security (RLS), and promoting adherence to organizational standards.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to improve engineering practices and grow data modeling and analytics engineering capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data platforms, analytics solutions, and data architectures.
- Experience building cloud-based data integration and analytics solutions using modern data engineering technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of data architecture, modeling, integration, and engineering principles, with the ability to deliver scalable, maintainable, high-performing solutions for analytics and AI initiatives.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex data and technology challenges.
- Ability to advocate for data quality, governance, security, and privacy best practices to support trusted and compliant data assets.
- Ability to provide technical leadership, facilitate knowledge sharing, and mentor less experienced team members.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively and build collaborative relationships across business and technology teams.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and take ownership in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Ability to create, maintain, and share clear technical documentation supporting operations, solution sustainability, and knowledge transfer.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Familiarity with Musco solutions is a plus.
